Tying the Knot - Doors Open Days
Sept., 2008
Free Demonstrations at 11.00 am, 1.00 pm and 3.00 pm
Join Captain Jan Negrijn in the Twine Loft for a fun filled, instructive demonstration and connect to our seafaring heritage.
From fishermen and whalers to modern day sailors, knots are the tools most often used by those who sail the seas. These are the knots that enabled our forefathers to voyage far away from land, into the unknown and while there are thousands of possible knots, only a handful of trustworthy, versatile and easily tied favorites have emerged to form the “core” of the mariner’s ropework.
Come, discover, that if you can tie your shoelaces, you can learn to tie these few basic knots and share in this simple, pleasurable craft.
